Building white-labeled, interactive maps
Custom development, CMS & integrations for a real estate fund spanning 4 U.S. states.
The BCC Enhanced income strategy consists of a multifamily real estate portfolio focused in the Southeast US, a region experiencing powerful growth, designed to generate immediate income over a long-term horizon.
We partnered with the COMMIT & Broad Creek Capital teams to develop their new Enhanced Income Strategy website that focused on highlighting the fund growth over time. The collaborative effort resulted in a content-rich website, including powerful interactive maps highlighting their newest locations as well as the city & neighborhood surrounding them.
The COMMIT team, a design & branding agency based out of New York City, approached us to partner with them on the development of Broad Creek Capital’s newest website. We had been referred to them via our network & they were confident that we would deliver a high-quality product to their client.
During the span of the project, we held a number of virtual meetings to discuss project timelines, limitations & recommendations for solving problems that were still yet unknown. We also shared a common Figma file, where we were able to comment on, question & help guide design decisions that were to directly impact the website.
In order to build a white-labeled, interactive experience, we opted to use Mapbox, a third-party mapping & geolocation tool used by some of the world’s biggest brands, such as The Weather Company, Instacart, BMW & Toyota. Being that the software is API-first & designed for developers, we knew it would allow us the level of customization we were looking for to deliver highly-customized maps & functionality that looked elegant & performed well.
Being that the website was so custom, we knew there would be multiple iterations in order to see what worked best. The maps you see on the current site are not the maps we started with; it took time, experimentation & patience to tweak the maps in a way that best fit both the layout & the goals of the Broad Creek Capital team.
With the final design, you can see the level of customization that had been provided; some maps show just the eastern half of the US, others showing just the southeast while one shows the entire country. There was a lot to account for, but we were able to make it happen given the tools provided by Mapbox.
Broad Creek Capitals fund was going to grow over time, so we knew we we’re going to have to develop a system that easily allowed a non-developer team, such as COMMIT, to add new content to the website. After completing our design of the CMS, both teams were excited to find out that we had built a system that not only allowed them to edit most of the content on their website, but also allowed them to update everything at once. By adding a new property in the CMS, all instances across the website would be updated; markers on maps, collection pages, navigation links, you name it.
While the major focus of the project was the interactive maps, the Broad Creek Capital website encompasses much more. When first presented, the team loved what they had seen & immediately knew it was what they wanted to best represent their brand for European investors. While it’s still early, the metrics look promising.
We believe that great people are necessary to build great products.
